Punjab cricket team

The Punjab cricket team is the official first-class cricket team that represents the Indian state of Punjab. They have qualified for three Ranji Trophy semi-finals in the last five seasons, and made it to the final in 2004–05 tournament, where they lost to Railways on first innings. They also play in other domestic cricket tournaments in India. They have only been winners of the Ranji Trophy once, in the 1992–93 season.

Competition history

Punjab have won the Ranji Trophy only once in its history. In that year, they lost the Irani Trophy against a Rest of India team that featured the likes of Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly. Ajay Jadeja and Nayan Mongia. It has never won the Ranji ODI Trophy.

Home ground

The Punjab cricket team are based and play their home games at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali, Chandigarh, which was established in 1993, with floodlights, on what was previously swampland. New cricket grounds of Internetional recognition are expected to come up at Bathinda and one more at Ludhiana or Amritsar as per the saying of Punjab govt

Manpreet Gony

Manpreet Singh Gony made his debut for the Punjab cricket team in the Ranji Trophy in the season 2007-08. Angered by his non-selection in Kings XI Punjab IPL team late in the season, he decided to move his family to Tamil Nadu where he was selected for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. Gony has made his mark in the 2008 Indian Premier League matches. He played for the Chennai Super Kings. He was one of leading wicket takers in the Indian Premier League and also performed well with the bat, scoring crucial runs in the last overs. He was instrumental in the Chennai Super Kings victory against Delhi Daredevils. He took 17 wickets in 16 matches in the IPL tournament. His team, the Chennai Super Kings, were the runner's up of the IPL tournament. Gony was drafted into the Indian cricket team for the Tri-Nation Series in Bangladesh in place of Sreesanth who was ruled out with a side strain.

Moulik Bhattacharya

Moulik Bhattacharya is a Chandigarh based cricketer.He is the captain of Punjab U-19 team.He has represented Punjab in the Vijay Hazare trophy 2010/11.He was selected as the Best U-19 player of Punjab for the year 2010-2011.He has represented India U-19 team in the tour of Australia. He is a left handed opening batsman.He made his first class debut against Himachal Pradesh where he made 57 Not out.In U-19 level his highest score is 124 against Delhi U-19 team.

Harmeet Singh

Harmeet Singh (born 9 October 1987), is a Right Arm Medium bowler.[1] was born in Rajasthan, and had played only two List A matches when Deccan Chargers picked him for their campaign in IPL 2009. There is something spectacular about his right-arm medium-pace bowling, and his figures after his 2nd season in the IPL suggested so: 10 wickets in seven matches and an economy rate of 7.40. But by being aware of his limitations, he extended himself and eventually his bowling was a crucial factor in the semi-final and the final. His seven overs in those two matches went for 31 runs and got him 4 wickets, and a running catch from him proved to be the decisive turning point in the final that his team won.

Taruwar Kohli

Taruwar Kohli (born December 17, 1988) is an Indian cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler. He was born in Jalandhar. Kohli made his debut for Punjab Under-17s in the Vijay Merchant Trophy competition of 2005/06, making five appearances in the competition, and scoring 85 not out on his debut in a drawn three-day match. Kohli's incredible form continued throughout the tournament, as he top-scored with 110 in the penultimate match. He played in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy for the Under-19s team in 2006, and in the Cooch Behar Trophy competition of the same year. Kohli was made a part of the Indian Under-19s World Cup winning squad in February and March 2008 - which won in the final against the South African team - despite Kohli being dismissed for just a single run in the final. In IPL 2008, Kohli played for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. In the second edition of the IPL Kohli represents the Yuvraj Singh led Kings XI Punjab

Karan Goel

Karan Goel is a cricket player from Punjab who has represented Punjab in Ranji Trophy matches. He plays for Kings XI Punjab in IPL. Born in 1986 in Ludhiana he first played for Punjab in 2005.

Sarabjit Ladda

Sarabjeet Ladda is a player from Punjab. He plays for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy and plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. Ladda made his first class debut in the year 2007.

Bipul Sharma

Bipul is a player from Chandigarh who represents Punjab in the Ranji trophy and was a member in the Chandigarh Lions squad in the rebel Indian Cricket League. He also plays for Kings XI Punjab in IPL.

Sunny Sharma

Sunny Sharma made his first class Debut in the year 2009.He played for Haryana and shifted his state to Himachal Pradesh from Haryana and played in their senior district championship this year

Mandeep Singh

Mandeep Singh, a bright cricketer from Jalandhar, is a right handed batsman and has played U-16 and U-19 World Cups for India. Mandeep Singh was named India's vice-captain for the 2010 Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand. He was one of the stars of the 2009 U-19 tour of Australia, where he cracked a match-winning 151 in a one-dayer. His father, an athletics coach in Jalandhar, wasn't very pleased with his son's cricketing ambitions. But he was later convinced when Mandeep emerged as one of the leading batsmen in junior cricket. With his outstanding performances in U-19 World Cup, he made his First Class debut on 17 Nov 2010 where he represented Punjab against Himachal Pradesh where he scored 54 not out in his debut innings. He is also contracted with ipl teams like Kolkata Knight Riders (in 2010), Kings XI Punjab (in 2011). He also represented North Zone in Duleep Trophy and is the youngest player in playing XI in North Zone in Duleep Trophy.
